Available exclusively for Windows Phone, Edinburgh Bus allows you to save your most frequently used bus stops in Edinburgh to easily view the next bus times using the BusTracker service. This service only works with Lothian Buses as these are the only ones supported by BusTracker.
The app was designed to fill a void in the Windows Phone app ecosystem – there wasn’t an app that allowed you to save a list of stops that you use frequently, or check the arrivals for a specific stop number quickly by scanning the stop’s QR code.
We’ve updated the app to utilise the BusTracker API, which allows us to display the bus stop data in a far nicer way than the default Edinburgh Council run mobile website. It’s a big improvement on the previous version and we’ll be updating it more regularly with new features.
The new bus times page, and the main app screen itself, take into account what accent colour you’ve selected for your device so that the app feels more personal for you. It’s also a cleaner and easier to use design than the cluttered council website.
You can also use your phone’s camera to quickly bring up departure times simply by scanning the QR code sticker on every bus stop. This lets you easily check a bus stop that you use infrequently, and don’t want to add to your list of favourite stops.
Big improvements are coming to the EdinburghBus app. Stay tuned this summer for more news.
